Battle of Princeton
Washington crossed the Delaware River for the third time to fight the Battle of Princeton. The first two times were to get to Trenton and to return to the winter headquarters. The Battle of Princeton was another triumph for the colonists and it took place on January 2nd 1777. Just after the colonists won the Battle of Assunpink Creek they snuck behind the enemy and fought the battle of Princeton. The colonists had 4,500 troops left against Cornwallis' small army of 1,200. The colonists suprised the British by attacking twice with a large force in one day. The colonists managed to kill or wound over 7 times as many people than the British. A small group of colonists were defeated but Washington's main force took over New Jersey.
It improved the morale of the colonial troops and decreased the morale of the British troops and they began to believe that they could win. It was the third consequtive victory for the colonists. More people enlisted into the colonial army as well. The last advantage of the victory was that they took over almost all of New Jersey and got more supplies
