Introduction
Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night, 1776. The Revolutionary War was usually fought in the same seasons every year. They usually stocked up on food and water and stopped fighting for winter. Washington organized his attack in the middle of the winter so the British were unprepared. George Washington led a group of soldiers across the half-frozen Delaware River. The colonists defeated the British mercenaries camped in Trenton. Washington also captured prisoners and supplies to help them get through winter. Washington launched another attack on January 2nd, 1777. The new reinforced army at Trenton was made up of real British troops under the command of Lord Cornwallis. Conwallis was an experienced general and led many of the attacks on the colonies. The British troops were caught unprepared again and defeated. After one day Washington managed to win another battle against Cornwallis at Princeton.
